Students throughout Virginia have seen soprano Cristina Nassif in performances for a few years, most having taken place in their own schools while she was a part of Virginia Opera's educational in-school touring program; just a couple of years before her breakout performance in the company's 2005 production of “La Traviata,” which had critics raving about her potential to be one of opera's next big stars.

Most recently, Cristina returned to Virginia Opera to open the 2006-2007 season by starring in a production of “Carmen,” which was the opera featured at Richmond's first-ever Student Night at the Opera on Oct. 16, 2006. More than 2,300 students filled the house at the Landmark Theater to see and hear Cristina in a performance that brought the young audience members to their feet for a thunderous standing ovation by the time the final curtain fell.

Cristina performs again this season as Nedda in “I Pagliacci,” which will be featured at the second Student Night at the Opera in Richmond on March 21, 2007.
